CULTURE NEWS

  • After 40 years at UWO Fox Cities, the Fox Valley Concert Band has moved rehearsals to Xavier High School and other spaces since Winnebago County took over the campus in June. The group (50 members) must secure a new home by January for its March concert.  WBAY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State records show that roughly 100 of 421 public school districts operate a licensed pool, including three at the Appleton Area School District + the list uses official data to reveal pool access across Wisconsin schools.  Post-Crescent
  • At Valley View Elementary in Kaukauna, second graders received 42 custom winter hats on Friday, secretly knitted by the local Yarn It All group based on designs they created; teacher Tricia Vertz said she hopes the project will continue next year.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wisconsin State Patrol launched its holiday season Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign to boost impaired driving prevention through New Year’s Day. The campaign follows last season’s 403 impaired driver crashes (nine fatalities) and urges drivers to plan ahead and choose safe rides.  WOSH-AM

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Appleton outdoor workers such as tow operator Zach Van Linn and Topper's Pizza driver Steele Priest brace for an arctic blast this weekend by layering up and preparing supplies (including insulated gloves and boots) to stay warm, while advising residents to check their vehicles for good batteries, tires, and brakes.  WOSH-AM
