  • Hundreds of volunteers are hand-packing over 147,000 meals at the Feed My Starving Children mobile-pack event happening today at the Saint John Nepomucene Parish on Grand Avenue in Little Chute—helping local efforts to fight malnutrition. Volunteers can still sign up for one of the 14 remaining cleanup spots.  WBAY
  • Festival Foods locations in the Fox Cities competed on Dec. 5 by ringing bells to support the Salvation Army fundraiser — employees at all five stores rang bells throughout the day to help reach a $2.3M goal.  WOSH-AM

  • Windows of Light bookstore will close its doors on Sunday after nearly 30 years of service (most items are 75% off) as owner Nathan Weyenberg retires; record shop Eroding Winds will move into the space next year and plan to open in February.  NBC 26

  • At A Very Neenah Christmas, nine seniors from Neenah High School built 15 wooden sheds from scratch for a new Christmas market after starting their capstone woodworking class early this school year. The event now welcomes visitors downtown with festive local vendors.  WBAY
  • Tickets for the 73rd annual EAA AirVenture Oshkosh are on sale now even though the event runs from July 20 to 26 next year (with hundreds of thousands expected), and EAA says buying early helps fans plan their holiday gift of an aviation adventure.  WOSH-AM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gov Tony Evers announced grants to six Northeast Wisconsin dairy companies to modernize their operations — each company can receive up to $50,000 from a $600,000 pool with a 20% match required.  WTAQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • The CDC advisory panel voted on Dec. 5 to change the hepatitis B vaccine guidance for newborns, advising that parents of babies born to hepatitis B–negative mothers consult with their doctors about delaying vaccination until two months old (local pediatricians are reviewing the change while continuing current practices).  Post-Crescent
  • Ice fishing season is underway on Lake Winnebago, but safety concerns remain as experts note the ice is only 2-3 inches thick in many bays, so anglers are urged to use safety gear and avoid ATVs until conditions improve.  WOSH-AM

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Construction is underway on nearly 60 townhouses for Froedtert ThedaCare residents on Doty Island near the medical center in Neenah, and the first phase of the project will finish by next summer.  WHBY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bellin College nursing student Madison DeCleene became the first ever participant in an NCAA pilot program when she competed in cross country and track for St. Norbert College on Dec. 4. The program allows transfer students to continue their athletic careers following an agreement between Bellin and St. Norbert.  WTAQ
