Good morning, Appleton.

Schroeder’s Forevergreens in Neenah opened Friday for its 50th season—having once supplied the White House Christmas tree in 2011—and families quickly picked out trees ahead of a predicted snowstorm.

The local retailer grows its trees in central Wisconsin and has served the community for many decades.

J.J. Keller of Neenah arranged to transport the 53-foot Red Fir named Silver Belle from a national forest in Nevada to the west lawn of the White House for today's tree lighting ceremony at 4 p.m.—the USDA Forest Service supplied needed permits at no cost.

A local woman who survived a teen crash is now a nurse, mother, and author of a memoir that details her 43 days in intensive care—she hopes her story will boost local blood donations.

Later today at 10 p.m., a doctor who helped save her life will share more details about her mission.

Fans waited in line for autographs from Packers players Luke Musgrave, Brandon McManus, John FitzPatrick, Josh Whyle and Warren Brinson at Fleet Farm in Howard on December 1—exchanging a minimum $50 donation to benefit the Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign.

The event helped raise funds for local families in need, seniors and people experiencing homelessness—marking the second of three planned holiday sessions.
