CRIME NEWS

  • Appleton police impounded three bikes after riders broke safe-driving rules, and Traffic Coordinator Sgt. Ryan McCord said that young riders—many aged 12 to 20 and sometimes unlicensed—must learn proper road rules to avoid fines.  WOSH-AM

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new exhibit marking the 40th anniversary of papermaking in space opened at The History Museum at The Castle in Appleton on November 14. The exhibit displays papermaking devices—used on the space shuttle Columbia in 1986—and honors the work of Appleton West High School student Dan Hebert—whose experiment flew on Columbia.  Post-Crescent

  • Drivers along North County Road A have seen a giant corn mountain in a parking lot where 24 million pounds of corn are stored from an exceptional harvest, according to United Cooperative CEO David Cramer—who said the cooperative is waiting for on-rail freight to move the crop.  WOSH-AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • An anonymous $1.4 million donation has expanded the Fox Valley Boys & Girls Clubs STEM and workforce readiness programs for over 4,000 youth in Appleton, Menasha, and Neenah over the next three years. Club officials said the new Makers Labs—designed to provide hands-on learning and career exploration—will help boost participation and prepare youth for future job opportunities.  WTAQ
  • The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction honored eight schools this year for strong academic performance and progress in closing the achievement gap (local honorees include Shiocton Elementary, T.J. Walker Middle School, Crivitz High School and Forest Lane Community School). DPI said it will continue the state-level recognition program in the future.  WBAY
