- ➤ The 54th Downtown Appleton Christmas Parade will take place Nov. 25 with a Christmas in Toyland theme on College Avenue and will honor the Pfefferle family as parade marshals—drawing about 80,000 spectators and featuring marching bands and festive floats along the route. Post-Crescent
- ➤ The Light the Night Market holiday edition will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. on Nov 15 in downtown Appleton, bringing live music, rides, ice carving and local shopping to Houdini Plaza and part of College Avenue (between Appleton and Oneida Street) as a kickoff for the season. Attendees will enjoy performances by Brewster Street Brass Band, Singalong with Mrs. Claus and Dave Ross, along with attractions like train rides, reindeer and a scavenger hunt. Post-Crescent
- ➤ Bell-ringing for the Salvation Army began Wednesday in Green Bay and Fox Valley as the Greater Green Bay corps aimed to collect $1,330,000—Gustman Subaru in Appleton offered to match up to $1,700 in donations and invited donors to drop off non-perishable food items and toys. FOX 11
- ➤ Fox Cares Foundation donated $75,000 to area food pantries on November 12 by giving $25,000 each to Paul's Pantry, Oshkosh Area Community Pantry, and St. Joseph Food Program to help with rising food insecurity+ additional food and cash contributions were received during FOX 11 Food Project week. - ➤ BEAMING raised $33,500 during its five-hour Holiday for the Horses fundraiser in downtown Appleton, benefiting people with disabilities. The funds—supporting horse therapy programs in the Fox Valley—will help sustain BEAMING’s services. WOSH-AM

- ➤ Oshkosh Defense announced that it will lay off about 160 union production workers effective January 5, 2026—part of its efforts to align the workforce with current and future business needs. The union said it will support its members using a negotiated layoff, recall, and seniority system during this transition. WBAY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction released school report cards showing that 94% of districts earned at least 3 stars with nearly half receiving 4 or more. In our area, high performers include Appleton schools while De Pere earned a 5-star rating (one of 42 districts to do so) as nearby schools like Columbus Elementary did not meet expectations. WBAY

- ➤ Outagamie County approved a special exception permit last Tuesday for a proposed gravel quarry in the Town of Center despite strong community pushback – residents raised concerns about noise, vibration, and potential property value drops due to water and wetland impacts. The permit includes two amendments that extend groundwater well guarantees and require new approval if the property is sold. WTAQ

- ➤ Outagamie County health officials warned that whooping cough is spreading as other respiratory illnesses circulate and urged parents to check vaccination records—since symptoms can start like a cold but lead to severe coughing—in an effort to prevent transmission among children. FOX 11
