COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Combined Locks family is inviting the community to honor their late daughter (Brooklyn) on November 22 by encouraging random acts of kindness. Brooklyn passed away in 2022 after a two-year battle with acute myeloid leukemia, and her best friend’s mother is raising funds for her classmates from the class of 2029 to keep her memory alive.  WBAY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A Wisconsin RV dealer expanded east by acquiring Appleton Camping Center—now rebranded as Markquart RV-Appleton at 2100 N. McCarthy Rd. The company said it will add more new and used trailers while keeping its current employees.  WBAY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Appleton and Menasha libraries reopened nine months ago after $40.4 million and $9 million renovations and are now seeing strong community use, with Appleton returning to pre-COVID visitor numbers and Menasha enjoying a 60% increase in door count and record program attendance. Both libraries now serve as active learning centers—boosting new library card registrations and increased use of study and meeting spaces.  FOX 11
  • The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh was named one of the nation’s best schools for men in nursing by the American Association for Men in Nursing, marking its ninth time earning this honor. Three senior student leaders accepted the award in Orlando + noted a strong presence of men in accelerated nursing programs.  WTAQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Amid the government shutdown that continues into another day, passengers at Appleton International Airport report no delays as air traffic controllers and TSA workers keep working without pay+ the DOT warned that flights at 40 major airports may drop by 10% if a deal is not reached by Friday.  WBAY
  • Officials from the Wisconsin State Patrol offered drivers safety tips after reports noted that deer have been moving around on November 5, urging motorists to scan the road at dawn and dusk and to brake firmly if a deer is seen – staying in their lane to avoid a worse crash. The patrol advised drivers that when one deer appears, others might soon follow, so it is important to remain alert while driving.  WOSH-AM

  • Michael Manders from Omro had waited over 13 months after receiving a recall notice from Champion Homes when leaks appeared on his roof and repair work began just after 8 a.m. Wednesday—he said the repairs replaced damaged wood and shingles to protect his home before winter.  WBAY
