CULTURE NEWS

  • WFRV invites Appleton residents to send photos or videos of their holiday light displays from now until December 25 for a chance to appear on Local 5 News Wednesday nights. Entries from homes, businesses, or neighborhoods should be emailed to [email protected] WOSH-AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Harmony Ebbesen works at Greenville Elementary in the Hortonville School District where she helps children with intellectual disabilities improve their language, swallowing, and social skills using assistive devices — she also enjoys pajama days that let students see a friendlier side of school life.  Post-Crescent
  • Appleton Area School District high schoolers saw fewer failures as the rate dropped from 17 percent to 10 percent over three years—improving overall grade point averages. The decline was strongest among students of color—marking significant academic gains.  WHBY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Downtown Appleton, Inc. will launch a student advisory committee next week as 15 high school students selected by Appleton Area School District meet bi-monthly + use a grant to plan ideas for the city's future.  WBAY
  • DATCP scaled back its proposed changes to two animal health rules after hearing from hundreds of farmers & livestock businesses. The agency reduced fee hikes to inflation-level adjustments to ease financial burdens while keeping programs that protect livestock from diseases.  WOSH-AM
  • Brown County is seeking DNR approval to use contaminated soils at the south landfill near Holland — neighbors say the plan may risk safety. The department is accepting written comments until Nov. 11 and will decide by Feb. 9.  WTAQ
  • Kaukauna Police Department announced a policy change that all domesticated animals taken into custody will be sent to Fox Valley Humane Society—this followed a missing cat incident on Oct. 26 that resulted in an apology and corrective action against the involved officer.  Post-Crescent
