- ➤ Humane societies in our area have seen more pets come in as rising costs force families to give up pet care—Green Bay and Oshkosh shelters now offer pet food pantries to help keep pets at home. WBAY
- ➤ Community groups want the Communication Arts Center at the UW-Oshkosh Fox Cities campus reopened for live performances. The Fox Valley Concert Band and Attic Theatre Inc have rehearsed off-campus since its closure in July — county officials plan to hire a third-party manager before the facility can reopen. FOX 11
- ➤ Child care providers gathered at First 5 Fox Valley on Monday to share their struggles with high costs and staffing shortages that force rate increases every six months. Department officials said state funding may soon help ease the burden on local centers — the high cost of teacher wages and operational expenses remains a key challenge. FOX 11
- ➤ Food pantries, food trucks and community groups in Northeast Wisconsin are stepping in as uncertainty over FoodShare benefits grows after the USDA partially funded SNAP following a government shutdown dispute. Agencies report delays of up to two weeks for benefit card updates for nearly 689,000 residents, including 170,000 children—local leaders say immediate help is needed to keep hunger at bay. FOX 11

- ➤ Grateful Groove will take place on Saturday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center as a holiday concert to support Trim Hunger’s mission to provide meals in the Fox Cities—featured performers include Janet Planet, Steve March-Tormé, and Pegasis. FOX 11
- ➤ Comedian Charlie Berens—host of the 'Manitowoc Minute'—filmed his new comedy special, Neighborly, at Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton and will release it on YouTube on Dec. 1. FOX 11

- ➤ Appleton’s job market has not mirrored the major layoffs at Amazon, Target, and Paramount Skydance—local recruiter Monica Jasinski said hiring for customer service and data entry roles has increased. She warned that artificial intelligence may impact white-collar jobs by early next year—a change that could reshape the local workforce. WTAQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kaukauna Police updated their process for handling animals after an officer left a missing cat named Walter in a field instead of taking it to a shelter last week. Every officer will now take domesticated animals directly to the Fox Valley Humane Society, and the department apologized to the community and the cat’s owners. WTAQ
- ➤ The Wisconsin DNR and Fox River Navigational System Authority are working together to monitor the spread of invasive round gobies near Oshkosh’s Bowen Street Fishing Pier and in Lake Winnebago. The agencies said the fast-reproducing fish may displace native species by outcompeting them for food and habitat, so they are focusing on prevention measures. WTAQ
