- ➤ Appleton resident Kim Jones has turned her home at 1007 E. Marquette St. into Disturbia of Appleton to raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research and the Dravet Syndrome Foundation. Her spooky display— which drew about 200 trick-or-treaters last year— remains up until Nov. 7 and has already raised $1,470 for St. Jude. Post-Crescent
- ➤ Appleton Downtown Inc. is reopening its Indoor Fox Den Mini Market at Fox Commons starting Nov. 1st through March. The market — held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — will feature 15 local vendors offering handcrafted goods, artisan foods, and locally made products. WBAY
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A long-standing cultural gifts store in Appleton — Angels Forever Windows of Light — will close after Dec. 7 as its owners retire by the end of 2025. It has operated for 38 years at 310 W. College Ave and is holding major sales on merchandise. WOSH-AM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State officials said FoodShare recipients in Wisconsin can use any remaining funds on their benefit cards to buy food throughout November—this update contradicts an earlier memo urging them to spend their balance by the end of October. Post-Crescent
- ➤ Due to the ongoing government shutdown, the USDA said no SNAP benefits will be sent in November - leaving many families worried about food supplies. Some states will use emergency funds or advise residents to seek help from food banks, and unused funds on EBT cards will roll over. WOSH-AM
