- ➤ Local radio icon Dan Stone ended his career on Y100 WNCY Thursday morning after 54 years on air—he thanked fans for their support during his 9 to 11 a.m. show. WOSH-AM
- ➤ About 100 Appleton residents, business owners, and local leaders met on Oct. 22 to discuss high noise downtown — they urged tougher police action on loud vehicles and plans for signage by Appleton Downtown Incorporated. The meeting came after the police added a second traffic officer, and officials stressed that quieter streets will help both businesses and local students. WTAQ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A new partnership between UW-Green Bay and Fox Valley Technical College was formed yesterday to let Criminal Justice and Business students transfer easily to UW-Green Bay—students will receive junior status and save on tuition costs. The schools signed an MOU at Fox Valley’s Public Safety Training Center to clear a path for more students to continue their education and meet local workforce needs. WTAQ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A multi-million dollar capital campaign to upgrade Bubolz Nature Preserve in Appleton is underway and will replace worn trails with a GEOWEB system next year. The project will also expand educational features and start a reforestation nursery this spring — efforts that depend on community donations to meet a $3.5 million goal. WTAQ
- ➤ Comet Lemmon is a long-term comet discovered at Mount Lemmon Observatory in January that made its closest approach on Oct. 21 and is now visible in the western sky after sunset through early November. Viewers are advised to use binoculars or seek dark skies—away from city lights—for a better look at its striking green glow. FOX 11

- ➤ Menasha's municipal swimming pool at Jefferson Park will not open in 2026 and will be removed after the Common Council voted 7-0 on Oct. 20 so the city can start building a new aquatic center expected to open in 2027. Residents may use Appleton's pools at resident rates or swim at the municipal beach on Lake Winnebago during this transition. Post-Crescent
- ➤ Wisconsin Drug Take Back Day is scheduled for October 25 (with nearly 300 law enforcement agencies participating) to help residents safely dispose of unused medications like capsules, creams, and inhalers. The Wisconsin Department of Justice says the drop-off process takes just minutes and reminds residents that aerosol cans, hazardous waste, and illegal drugs are not accepted. FOX 11
