  • Welcoming Willows in Little Chute has completed another year of helping adults with disabilities gain independence and express creativity. Board members announced a fundraiser called 'You’ve Got a Friend In Us' on Oct. 23 at Van Abels in Hollandtown—tickets cost $50 and doors will open at 5 p.m.  FOX 11
  • Appleton resident Charles Barnum, 90, sponsored his first Habitat home on Oct. 14 — marking 30 years of service with Greater Fox Cities Habitat for Humanity and honoring his late wife Donna. He said he will continue volunteering as he searches for a lost photo with former President Jimmy Carter.  NBC 26

  • A local veteran in Appleton runs a goat-powered vegetation management business at Van Acre’s Homestead using solar fencing + a work ethic from his 25 years in the Marine Corps. He turned his love for animals into an eco-friendly service that helps keep the community's land clear.  WOSH-AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Oct 16, the Shiocton School District held a groundbreaking ceremony for district-wide upgrades funded by a $23.5M referendum—improvements in safety, infrastructure, and learning spaces will see most interior work scheduled for the summers of 2026 and 2027 with completion before the 2027–28 school year.  WTAQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Wisconsin DNR reminds anyone wanting to harvest Lake Winnebago sturgeon during the 2026 season to purchase a license by Oct. 31. Both residents and nonresidents 12 and older may buy unlimited licenses via Go Wild — military personnel on leave and those turning 12 between Nov. 1 and season end do not need to meet the deadline.  WTAQ

  • Officials said some SNAP participants saw an incorrect balance on their accounts on October 17 due to a government shutdown (as reported by Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin) and that benefits were not canceled. They advised participants to check notifications from Wisconsin DHS for the latest updates.  WOSH-AM
