COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Homelessness in the Fox Cities has grown with state reports showing numbers rising from 5 in 2021 to 249 in 2025. The Fox Cities Housing Coalition made up of 38 agencies is working to boost non-employment cash income & expand coordinated entry programs for residents in need.  WTAQ
  • On Monday, more than 450 Capital Credit Union employees volunteered on Community Impact Day to help 24 nonprofit organizations across northeast Wisconsin + groups in Appleton, Green Bay, Neenah, Oshkosh, Door County, and Shawano received support to strengthen local communities.  WOSH-AM

  • The Tardigrade's Bookshelf Book Bar opened at 501 N. Richmond St. in Appleton — it provides a new venue that mixes books with bar service for local residents.  Post-Crescent

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Trout Museum of Art reopens today in a new 30,000-square-foot building on College Avenue and Drew Street (across from Lawrence University) after nearly five months closed at its longtime Houdini Plaza location.  WHBY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said La Niña has formed in the eastern Pacific with cooler-than-normal water affecting the jet stream. The weak event is expected to have little influence on winter temperature, precipitation, or snowfall in Northeast Wisconsin — forecasters are monitoring the pattern closely.  FOX 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Public Service Commission urges utility customers with unpaid bills to arrange a payment plan or apply for financial help before the winter heating disconnection moratorium begins on Nov. 1. Customers with disconnected service must work with their providers for reconnection—state law prevents disconnections for home heating from Nov. 1 to April 15.  FOX 11

  • Children’s Wisconsin’s Appleton Clinic’s new pediatric urgent care unit accepted its first patients Monday Oct. 13 at 2575 E. Evergreen Dr. — it has six exam rooms, two triage rooms and one treatment room and operates daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.  WBAY
