COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Homelessness in the Fox Cities rose to 249 people in 2025, and the Fox Cities Housing Coalition—composed of 38 agencies—works to help low-income residents secure stable shelter by addressing barriers to housing.  FOX 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chainsaw artist Ben Buschke from Manawa appeared on Good Day Wisconsin on October 9 to showcase his wood sculptures and explain his creative process—he detailed the tools he uses.  FOX 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Wisconsin Library Association named Appleton Public Library its 2025 Library of the Year, praising its service, innovation, and community impact. The award will be presented on October 30 during the association’s annual ceremony, and the honor comes as the library returns to its newly renovated downtown facility—after operating from two temporary locations.  WHBY
  • On October 8th, district leaders held a groundbreaking at Victor Haen Elementary in Kaukauna—backed by a 2024 community referendum—to launch plans for a 30,000 square foot addition that will change the school from serving grades one through four to serving pre-kindergarten through fourth grade.  Post-Crescent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Josh Kaul visited Harbor House yesterday to highlight the Safe at Home program that gives domestic violence victims a substitute legal address to protect them. The program has more than 2,700 participants and increased by around 400 last year+ officials say it cuts the risk of abusers locating victims during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  WBAY
  • State Rep. Dave Murphy changed his voting address hours after residents questioned his residency—he now lists N2331 Greenville Drive in Hortonville, which is in District 56, while his previous address was in District 52. Local critics say his move was meant to counter concerns over his district eligibility.  Post-Crescent

SPORTS NEWS

  • Brewers fans in Appleton stayed optimistic despite a 4-3 loss to the Cubs on Wednesday evening as many gathered at StoneYard Bar & Grill to enjoy free pocket pancakes and 99-cent wings while applauding the team’s spirit. The Cubs forced Game 4 on Thursday at Wrigley Field, and fans hoped that a win would secure a spot in the National League Championship Series.  WOSH-AM
