  • Appleton Public Library won the AIA Chicago Lerch Bate’s People’s Choice Award in the community and civic category after its $40 million renovated building opened in February—its three floors offer meeting rooms, bright windows and skylights, and the public voted over two weeks.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Appleton now see updated utility bills—Mayor Jake Woodford said the city changed the bill format and timing, but a planned explanation insert was missing from the first mailings.  WHBY

HEALTH NEWS

  • During Appleton’s Octoberfest weekend, car enthusiast Dave Kattner—a brain cancer survivor—displayed his restored 1937 Chevy truck Orange Crush at License to Cruise along College Avenue and the Exhibition Center, symbolizing his hard-won battle against brain cancer. After his 2017 diagnosis, he turned to restoring cars and now drives his truck to shows to connect with fellow enthusiasts.  WOSH-AM
