COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A ribbon cutting was held Friday for Building for Kids' new Amazing Castle exhibit where children can explore a storybook castle with a dragon—and costumes let them play roles like jester or blacksmith. The exhibit opens to the public on Sunday and runs until January 4. FOX 11
- ➤ Local Lions Club partnered with American Quality Homes to put a new roof on the home of Asja Graper—whose late husband Bruce Graper served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. WOSH-AM
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Thrivent, an Appleton-based financial company, plans to replace its Ballard Road office with a new 155,000 square foot facility that will serve as the anchor of a 580-acre mixed-use development—while retaining all 1,400 local employees who largely work remotely. Thrivent expects to break ground by the end of 2025 and complete construction in about 18 months—further details on the current building's future use are pending. WTAQ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The 5th annual Irish Fest of the Fox Cities took place Friday and continues today at Jones Park in Appleton—offering live Irish and Celtic music, cultural programming and food as gates opened at 3 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. WBAY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kaleidoscope Academy, housed in the historic building built in 1925 when it was known as Roosevelt Junior High School, celebrated its 100th anniversary on Sept. 18 with a ceremony by city officials and the local historical society and hosted tours, a time capsule display and games for past and present students — marking one of Appleton's oldest education sites still in use. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Since Labor Day, the city of Neenah has been working at Doty Park to reinforce its failing sea wall—aiming to improve safety and protect the Fox River habitat. The $1.5 million project, supported by a $1 million DNR grant, will finish later this fall into early winter. WTAQ
- ➤ The DNR confirmed an invasive goby in Lake Winnebago after an angler caught one near Bowen Street Fishing Pier in June—officials later found 10 more and will monitor the area to see if the fish have spread. WOSH-AM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The northbound I-41 on and off ramps at Ballard Road will reopen today early in the day—although the bridge over I-41 will remain closed through late fall. Capitol Drive between Ballard Road and Commerce Court will close after the ramps open—while eastbound Capitol Drive keeps access to Commerce Court as part of the project to expand I-41 to six lanes between Appleton and De Pere. - ➤ The Wisconsin DOT announced that northbound I-41 ramps at Ballard Road will reopen today early while the bridge over I-41 remains closed through late fall—Capitol Drive between Ballard Road and Commerce Court will close after the ramps open. FOX 11
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Community First Fox Cities Marathon weekend began yesterday with kids races at the Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium—organizers said nearly 4000 people and about 1800 volunteers are involved in events ranging from diaper crawls to mascot races. Today's schedule includes a 5k and 10k race from Riverside Park, and the marathon and half marathon will start tomorrow at 7 a.m. WOSH-AM
