- ➤ The 34th Community First Fox Cities Marathon will run from Sept 19 to Sept 21 with races, kids events, and a health expo across eight communities—short-term road closures and designated parking in Neenah, Appleton, and nearby areas have been arranged. - ➤ Today, Irish Fest Fox Cities is held at Jones Park, 301 W. Lawrence St. in Appleton — it offers Irish food, drink, dance and cooking classes for families. The festival will also feature free samples, custom Guinness pints and live music while events continue Saturday. Post-Crescent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Appleton's Kaleidoscope Academy celebrated 100 years of education on Thursday night at its historic building that began as Roosevelt Junior High in 1925—its evolution includes a new addition in 1971, a transition in 1995, and a shift to a full charter school in 2007 with further expansion in 2024. City officials, the Appleton Historical Society, and school staff joined the centennial event featuring food trucks, tours, and family activities—highlighting the building’s lasting role in learning. - ➤ St. Norbert College’s Army ROTC program will continue after the Army issued a revised directive amid a nationwide review that had planned to close it. The program—member of the Fox Valley Battalion—has trained over 980 graduates since 1936 and will keep preparing future leaders. FOX 11
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Neenah began reinforcing Doty Park's sea wall after Labor Day to fix sinkholes, improve visitor safety, and restore the water habitat—using a $1 million grant that cut costs below the original budget. The work will finish later this fall into early winter. FOX 11
- ➤ Officials with the Wisconsin State Patrol will partner with the Wisconsin School Bus Association next week to launch Operation Safe Stop Week—special patrols will remind drivers not to pass stopped school buses, with violators facing fines between $500 and $1,000 and data showing that more than 67,000 vehicles pass school buses each day. - ➤ Former police chief Greg Peterson was named interim town administrator in Grand Chute—he will begin his role next Tuesday after replacing Richard Downey who resigned earlier this month. WHBY
- ➤ Appleton Mayor Jake Woodford says his office is fighting excessive vehicle noise downtown by revising sound ordinances and deploying traffic safety officers to issue citations — the measures follow long-standing community complaints about worsening noise.
