ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Kawasaki motorcycle collided with a Freightliner near Appleton on Aug. 28, fatally injuring the rider—county officials closed both lanes of County CB for several hours while the state patrol and local responders investigated the crash.  Post-Crescent

CRIME NEWS

  • Appleton Police are asking for help finding Hunter Murphy, a 17-year-old who has been missing since August 24 and was last seen in town — any information should be shared immediately with the department.  WBAY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Wisconsin DNR announced a reforestation program offering $125 per bushel of red pine cones and $70 per bushel of white pine cones when collectors gather mature cones in early September — interested individuals must check regulations and contact a state nursery before collecting. The program aims to boost reforestation efforts by ensuring cones are properly harvested and delivered to approved buying stations.  WOSH-AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mr. Frogs bar on College Avenue in downtown Appleton may have its liquor license revoked after accumulating 265 violation points from repeated breaches such as letting underaged patrons enter & serving alcohol past 2 a.m., and the Common Council will vote on the decision on September 3.  WTAQ
  • Appleton released a 102-page plan outlining the next 10-20 years that focuses on developing walkable neighborhoods — the plan includes redeveloping areas like Northland Mall and West College Avenue to boost housing options. Residents provided feedback during the recent public open house and online worksheet as the plan continues to evolve.  WTAQ
  • Outagamie County Judge Mark McGinnis resigned Feb. 1 after an investigation by Wisconsin Watch revealed he jailed a man in 2021 without proper charges—special prosecutor Tim Gruenke chose not to file criminal charges. He said he stepped down after turning 55 to pursue new professional opportunities in educating judges and legal consulting, and Gov. Tony Evers will name a replacement soon.  WTAQ
