- ➤ Downtown Appleton will host the Light the Night Market on Friday when College Avenue will close to vehicles and fill with live music, street performers, a pickleball court from Pickleball Kingdom, and local vendors and food trucks—running from 5 p.m. until 10. WBAY
- ➤ Kevin Callahan, author of 'Brothers in Arms' (a book recounting the valor of local soldiers), honored Appleton men Bill and Dick Offenstein who died while fighting in Europe in late 1944. Two surviving family members received commemorative medals to mark their sacrifice. WBAY
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in northeast Wisconsin increased nearly 20¢ in one day as summer ended and the Labor Day weekend approached—Appleton saw its regular price rise from $2.79 to $2.97 while areas like Wausau and Superior experienced increases of 21¢ and 4¢ respectively. AAA data confirmed the state’s average price remains 13¢ below the national rate. WOSH-AM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Appleton's Hmong American Immersion School will open this fall inside Johnston Elementary School with 80 students from 4K through fourth grade. The school teaches core subjects in English + Hmong language, art and music and plans to add fifth grade next year. FOX 11
