- ➤ Appleton American Legion Post 38 held a brat fry benefit on Wednesday that went until 7 p.m. and raised money for Old Glory Honor Flight — organizers aimed to beat last year's $7,500 total. WBAY
- ➤ American Legion Post 38 in Appleton holds a special brat fry today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 3220 W. College Ave — selling brats, hot dogs and burgers to raise funds for Old Glory Honor Flight that will support veterans' trips to visit memorials in Washington, DC. WBAY

- ➤ Today, about 300 elementary students got a first look at Sandy Slope School in Appleton before classes resume, marking the city’s first new elementary building in 35 years. The preview let parents & students see the classrooms and modern spaces planned for the upcoming school year. WHBY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Appleton Common Council approved a redesign for West Oklahoma Street on Wednesday that will repave the roadway as 26 feet wide and remove dozens of trees. Neighbors submitted a petition with nearly 50 signatures asking for more parking and for at least 13 trees to be saved — council members voted 8 to 4 and the mayor promised more community outreach on future projects. - ➤ WBAY news director Julie Moravchik—diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year—finished her months-long chemotherapy and rang the special bell outside ThedaCare Cancer Center Tuesday, marking an important milestone in her treatment. WBAY
- ➤ The CDC reported that Candida auris cases in the U.S. nearly tripled in the past three and a half months—from 1,052 cases at the end of April to 2,809 by August 9—raising concerns as the drug-resistant fungus spreads to more states including areas in the Midwest.
