- ➤ TDS Telecommunications completed its all-fiber internet network in Appleton on Tuesday, giving nearly 35,000 addresses access to speeds up to 8 Gigabit and using over 400 miles of cable as part of an $80 million capital investment—marking the city as a TDS Fiber-Fast Community. The company also donated to the Fox Cities Salvation Army during the celebration. FOX 11

- ➤ On Saturday, an Appleton man was arrested after a road rage incident in which he flashed a handgun and fired shots at people in another vehicle along W. Wisconsin Avenue—he was taken into custody about three hours later and no one was injured. WHBY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Appleton parents met Monday in a self-organized listening session—saying that new truancy citations would not address deeper issues like caregiving and mental health challenges. The session comes as the school district plans to reinstate tickets for about 30 students to boost attendance and with officials set to vote soon on the proposal. WTAQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Appleton and Grand Chute have signed a memo of understanding — their fire departments will inspect food trucks for fire safety separate from health code reviews. Appleton Fire Chief Jeremy Hansen said the inspections will help ensure that food trucks meet all required safety codes. WHBY
- ➤ WisDOT reopened the southbound off-ramp at Ballard Road on Aug. 6 and will open the southbound on-ramp on Aug. 29 while both northbound ramps are set to open in early September—however, the overpass will stay closed through early November as part of the I-41 project. Fox Valley Lutheran students started school today and Appleton North High will resume on Sept. 3, so commuters are advised to use detours like Northland Avenue and Edgewood Drive. Post-Crescent

- ➤ A public health study in Appleton shows that 17 percent of residents feel isolated, 20 percent feel a lack of companionship, and 18 percent feel left out of society—public health officer Dr. Chuck Sepers said outreach plans will focus on helping residents feel they belong while 45 percent report struggling and 52 percent thrive.
