  • Kids in De Pere held the annual Lemon Market fundraiser that raised over $20K in two days for families and children battling cancer, breaking last year’s total. The funds will support the Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Hospital and two families facing childhood cancer — organizers said the event was inspired by Ava Winters’ sister who is now cancer-free.  WOSH-AM
  • The annual Cops @ Culver’s Day raised $157,576 to help law enforcement buy gift cards for those in need for the Police Lights of Christmas initiative. Northeast Wisconsin led the support with major contributions from Wautoma — $7,001, De Pere — $4,745, Sturgeon Bay — $4,362, Neenah — $4,081 and Manitowoc — $4,001.  WOSH-AM

CRIME NEWS

  • John Litza, 63, faces two counts of homicide by negligent operation after his truck crashed into a minivan in Grand Chute on March 24—killing two people and with weather possibly affecting the crash as a preliminary hearing is set for Sept.10.  FOX 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • High school students teamed with artist Neo Medina to paint a music-themed mural on the Fox Commons building in downtown Appleton on Friday night as part of a summer program involving 20 students—this work, featuring guitar—a piano—a trumpet—a drum, marks the fourth year of the project and highlights a growing local arts scene.  FOX 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Friday, NWTC graduates spoke at a nearly two-hour roundtable in northeast Wisconsin to explain how classroom training helped them meet local hiring challenges — NWTC president Kristen Raney and Congressman Tony Wied stressed that growing employer partnerships and increased financial support would boost job opportunities.  WBAY
