COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, despite rain delaying stage setups along College Avenue, the Mile of Music festival is kicking off across downtown Appleton with over 40 venues hosting nearly 200 acts during the free four-day event. Organizers expect an $8—10 million boost to local spending on food, drinks and merchandise as the event runs indoors and outdoors until midnight Sunday.  FOX 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • JCPenney sold 119 stores including its Fox River Mall location in a nearly $1 billion deal — the sale will close on Sept. 8 while all locations remain open. The deal follows a Chapter 11 filing five years ago and will help pay creditors.  FOX 11
  • Briohn Land Development of Brookfield has applied for a special-use permit to build a Rivian electric vehicle service and demonstration center at the northwest corner of State 441 and Northland Avenue—Paul Davis Restoration will occupy part of the new 77,000-square-foot building, with construction scheduled for early September and occupancy planned for summer 2026. City staff supported the project and the Common Council will vote on the permit on Aug. 6.  Post-Crescent

  • Michael Thorpe—an Appleton man—was sentenced to 16 years in prison for his role in the August armed robbery of Affordable Rare Coins in Grand Chute and received 11 years of extended supervision in Outagamie County Court after a clerk was beaten with a wrench while two other suspects await trial.  WHBY
