- ➤ On Friday, Chris Roth and photojournalist Shane Fitzsimmons joined Old Glory Honor Flight on its 75th mission to fly 94 Vietnam veterans from AirVenture in Oshkosh to Washington, D.C.—the flight was delayed by three hours due to weather and mechanical issues. Appleton's veteran Gary Lallensack etched his cousin’s name on the Vietnam Memorial—Medal of Honor recipient Leroy Petry was also aboard to honor the service of these veterans. WBAY
- ➤ Clarence Zahringer, a 107-year-old World War II veteran and longtime barber and civic leader, was honored today at the John H. Bradley VA Clinic in Appleton. He served as an Army Air Corps nurse in England during the war, ran a barbershop in Sherwood for decades, and received a commemorative coin plus a letter from Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins. - ➤ The Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, Greater Green Bay Community Foundation, and Oshkosh Area Community Foundation announced $1.5 million in grants through the Otto Bremer Trust Community Responsive Fund to support local nonprofits in literacy, foster care, children's health, and mental health across 10 counties. The grants were awarded through a tailored local process — ensuring funds reach organizations that meet urgent community needs — and are expected to make a vital impact in the region. WBAY
