CRIME NEWS

  • La Crosse police are searching for 22-year-old Eliotte Heinz (a Fox Cities native last seen walking south on the 500 Block of Front Street South at about 3:22 a.m. on Sunday) who is 5’4” with blonde hair and blue eyes and a Viterbo University student.  WBAY
  • Police in Oneida were in heavy presence Monday afternoon investigating an active incident on Onondaga Drive — Iroquois Drive as they asked residents to avoid the area — further details have not been released.  We Are Green Bay

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fox Valley Technical College began its three-day GirlTech camp on July 21 and will host 52 girls ages 9 to 13 until July 23—girls take part in hands-on STEM activities with sessions in welding, soldering, diesel engine work, virtual reality and artificial intelligence, and companies like Plexus, Miller Electric and Kimberly-Clark lead several sessions while returning alumni mentor current campers.  We Are Green Bay

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Outagamie County officials are asking residents for input on a new outdoor recreation plan to improve park features (like accessible bathrooms and safer play surfaces) to guide future projects. The survey remains open for a few months and helps county leaders decide on upgrades to trails and recreational spaces.  WTAQ
  • Residents of the Oklahoma Street neighborhood learned that Appleton plans to remove 41 trees and may cut 13 more if the street is not narrowed by 6 feet, sparking fears about losing vital shade and gathering space. A design hearing took place Monday at the city center building and the proposal will be voted on by the common council on August 11—citizens remain concerned about the changes.  WBAY

HEALTH NEWS

  • About 5 million above-ground pools were recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission — citing a defect that allowed children to climb in and which was linked to nine drowning deaths from 2007 to 2022 in states including Wisconsin. Consumers with recalled models from Bestway, Coleman, Intex, and Polygroup are urged to contact the manufacturers for free repair kits or drain the pool until fixed.  WOSH-AM
