COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Kaukauna teen, Anna Griesbach, is using plastic bag strips to weave waterproof blankets—her Girl Scout Gold Award project to help people facing homelessness. She donates the blankets to the local nonprofit Pillars in Appleton and hopes her work will bring hope to those in need.  WBAY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bel USA is launching production of The Laughing Cow cheese at its Little Chute facility and investing $10 million to add 50 new jobs, bringing the site’s total to roughly 170 plus it will partner with local schools to train a new generation of skilled workers. Plant Director Jason Meyer said this project is part of a broader $350 million investment initiative that includes collaboration with the White House.  WOSH-AM

CRIME NEWS

  • Luke Vandenheuvel, an Appleton man, was charged with reckless injury after he allegedly fired a shot during a road rage incident in Grand Chute and had his cash bond set at $10,000 after he said he acted out of fear when another driver repeatedly brake-checked him.  FOX 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • In 2024, the DNR stocked more than five million fish in inland waters and the Great Lakes to meet quotas set by fisheries biologists. Officials said stocking helps boost natural populations and supports recreational fishing.  We Are Green Bay

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Outagamie County Highway Department said We Energies is upgrading gas utilities at the Emons Road—Buchanan Road roundabout in Darboy. Beginning Wednesday, southbound N will close and drivers will detour along Emons Road, Eisenhower Drive, Highway KK, and Highway N until work finishes on Aug. 1.  WTAQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Carl Schulze, a quadriplegic who became disabled 18 years ago in an Appleton accident at Octoberfest, is riding his wheelchair from Neenah to Madison to urge better pay and support for home health aides—he rides about 10 miles daily with help from his aide and expects to reach Madison by the end of July or early August.  WOSH-AM
  • Swimming at Lake Winneconne Park was closed on July 15 because health officials reported elevated E. coli levels that posed a serious risk—officials said the water will be retested this week and results posted after testing.  WOSH-AM
