  • Appleton community service officers rescued 103 ducklings from sewer grates this spring as they work to protect urban wildlife. They use heavy tools to lift the grates and safely move the ducklings—helping them reunite with their mothers or reach a wildlife sanctuary.  WTAQ
  • Mary Beth Nienhaus Activity Center opened on May 28 at 3000 E. College Avenue and now provides seniors with over 300 unique activities like pool, pickleball, table tennis, yoga, and tai chi—supported by a $2 million donation from its namesake. Executive Director Dawn Gohlke said donations will be matched dollar for dollar up to $400,000—helping to build an endowment fund for future programs.  FOX 11

CRIME NEWS

  • The wrongful death trial for 19-year-old Grace Schara, who had Down syndrome, began in Outagamie County Circuit Court on June 3 as her father claimed hospital staff ignored his orders to avoid a ventilator and instead used sedatives and morphine during her COVID-19 treatment—defense attorneys maintain she died from the virus despite following those orders.  Post-Crescent

  • The trial over the wrongful death of 19-year-old Grace Schara began Tuesday in Outagamie County court after her family filed a suit against Ascension St. Elizabeth Hospital, claiming that medications were given without consent during her COVID-19 treatment in 2021. The case is the first to challenge COVID-19 as the primary cause on a death certificate—raising questions about informed consent and the standard of care and is expected to last up to 3 weeks.  We Are Green Bay
