  • Neenah, Menasha and Fox Crossing are joining forces for the inaugural Listen to the Loop live music event on June 5. Concerts will take place at Arrowhead, Fritse and Shepard parks with food trucks and beverage stands, offering a fun way to explore the Loop trail.  Post-Crescent
  • U.S. News and World Report ranked Appleton as the best place to live in Wisconsin, noting a median rent of $878, a median home value of $241,171, and household income over $80,000 — ahead of Waukesha and Eau Claire.  NBC 26
  • Whifferball Field opened at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute on Wed, May 27. The fenced play area, built with help from team mascot Whiffer, gives the youngest fans of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers a new spot to play catch.  WTAQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Building for Kids Children's Museum has opened Power Up, a new energy and sustainability exhibit featuring interconnected energy stations and a dynamic model of Appleton to help families learn through hands-on play (showing that making mistakes is part of problem solving).  WBAY
  • Local education reporter Rebecca Loroff invites readers to send in questions about school improvements and changes as classes have ended, offering a way to stay informed through email or an anonymous form. Her service builds on extensive coverage of Fox Cities schools.  Post-Crescent
  • Lawrence University confirmed on Friday that its Community Council approved Patriots of Faith (the Turning Point USA chapter) as an official student organization on campus. The decision will allow the 18-member group to reserve campus spaces and access university funding.  WBAY
  • The teacher apprenticeship program launched in 2024 to ease the local shortage is stalling as enrollment has halted at the two technical colleges; Appleton and other districts now wait for more funding (tight budgets hinder new sign-ups) to boost participation.  Post-Crescent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • More than 200 Fox Valley soldiers returned to the Appleton Flight Center on Friday after a yearlong deployment in the Middle East. The 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry Regiment + Wisconsin National Guard was honored with a welcome home ceremony as they came back from duty.  FOX 11
  • New ATV and UTV safety laws will take effect June 1 to boost rider safety statewide following 15 related deaths reported this year. The rules require UTV occupants to wear seatbelts, set DOT standards for windshield tint, require eye protection if no windshield is present, and limit towing practices.  WBAY

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Friday, May 29, the U.S. Coast Guard reminded boaters to wear life jackets and follow safety procedures on Northeast Wisconsin waterways. They advised that avoiding drugs and alcohol, checking boat equipment, and carrying emergency supplies can prevent drowning.  FOX 11
