- ➤ On May 26, U.S. News and World Report ranked Appleton 84th among the best places to live — Waukesha came in at 86th based on survey data and official measures of affordability, quality of life, and job market. The report drew on Census and Commerce data to score the cities. Post-Crescent
- ➤ Barks & Recreation dog park opened yesterday in Grand Chute near Fox Valley Technical College. The free 15-acre park (costing $1.4 million) features separate areas for large and small dogs, an agility course, and plans for a pet and veteran memorial and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. FOX 11

- ➤ Listen to the Loop debuts Friday, June 5 along the Loop the Lake Trail as three parks host live music and food vendors; Arrowhead Park (Neenah) offers a family-friendly zone with non-alcoholic drinks while Fritse Park (Neenah) and Shepard Park (Menasha) feature local bands and diverse menus. - ➤ Appleton specialist Amelia Zietlow announced the discovery of a new prehistoric mosasaur species, Tylosaurus rex, based on Texas findings. A replication skull is now on display at the History Museum at the Castle (highlighting its unique traits) after findings were published on May 26. WTAQ
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ New state data shows unemployment fell in all 13 metro areas in April compared to March but remains higher than last year, with Appleton's rate about the same as last April. The report comes from the Department of Workforce Development. WBAY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ St. Francis Xavier Middle School in Appleton held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, May 26 to launch its campus improvement project designed to enhance safety and outdoor spaces with new parking lots + a prayer garden and upgraded athletic fields. Construction will begin on June 15 and finish by mid-August. WTAQ
- ➤ Graduations for the class of 2026 took place yesterday at Appleton North, East + West High Schools, where families and students celebrated by tossing caps and receiving diplomas. Post-Crescent
- ➤ Spring Road Elementary’s running club helps students train for the Fox Cities Marathon + compete in the U.S. Venture School Challenge as contest funds are reinvested to cover entry fees when needed. WBAY
- ➤ Yesterday, the Kaukauna Area School District Board met in a closed session to decide on social studies teacher Patrick Meyer's future after he went on leave following a deleted social media post (made in April) that mentioned past presidential assassins. FOX 11
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Officials declared June 3 as Heat Awareness Day and remind residents to use air conditioning and check on neighbors as temperatures climb. Greg Engle from Wisconsin Emergency Management advises cooling tips (drink fluids, avoid alcohol, and monitor vulnerable individuals) to help prevent heat illness. FOX 11
- ➤ ThedaCare opened a 2,200 sqft simulation lab in Neenah on May 26 that will host its first group of residents, nurses and interprofessional care teams beginning July 1 as part of its Graduate Medical Education program to ease local physician shortages. WTAQ
- ➤ Wisconsin health officials confirmed five Mpox cases this year and advised residents to watch for symptoms such as unexplained rashes, fever, or swollen lymph nodes. They urge anyone exposed to contact a doctor immediately (the overall risk remains low). WBAY

- ➤ The Timber Rattlers opened the Network Health Whifferball Field on May 27 at Fox Cities Stadium behind the left-field berm to give kids a safe area to play catch during game days. The field was prepared by the grounds crew as a dedicated space for young fans. FOX 11
