- ➤ Appleton Police received a call on Monday after a cat climbed a tree to escape a dog (firefighters quickly rescued the pet) in a display of local service. WBAY

- ➤ Dr. Amelia Zietlow at the History Museum at the Castle published her findings yesterday on a new mosasaur species called Tylosaurus rex (a prehistoric lizard with serrated teeth and dual dental rows) from fossils dated 80 million years ago. A replica skull is on display for visitors. FOX 11
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ State Superintendent Jill Underly announced a major new statewide education initiative during an online news conference Tuesday afternoon. Underly & other leaders from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instructions detailed how the plan will support student learning. WBAY
- ➤ Oliver Zornow, a school board member, raised concerns yesterday over cafeteria food in Appleton not meeting district wellness policies, and food services director Jill Granger said Chartwells supplies limited available options that had to meet federal and district standards on a rolling five-day average. - ➤ St. Francis Xavier Middle School in Appleton held its groundbreaking ceremony yesterday to launch a project that will improve safety and upgrade outdoor facilities & work begins June 15 with completion planned by mid-August for the next school year. FOX 11

- ➤ The nearly 17-year PCB cleanup along the Lower Fox River ended in 2020 after removing 6.5 million cubic yards of contaminated sediment from a 39-mile stretch at a cost of $1.3 billion, and long-term monitoring will continue for 30 years. Post-Crescent
