- ➤ Fox Valley families face rising gas prices that increase their bills, and LEAVEN in Menasha is expanding its emergency rent and utility aid to help prevent housing loss in Calumet, Outagamie and northeastern Winnebago counties. The organization, celebrating 40 years, is expecting more requests this busy summer. WTAQ
- ➤ Rachel Manek of Good Day Wisconsin emceed Spotlight at The Fox Club at the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers' stadium in Grand Chute on May 20, awarding Women’s Fund impact grants to support local programs for women and girls (boosting community investments). FOX 11
- ➤ On May 20, volunteers from local businesses joined the Fox Valley Day of Caring by cleaning carts and pulling weeds at the Neenah-Menasha YMCA and Saint Joseph's Food Program — helping non-profits save time and money. FOX 11
- ➤ Travelers for Memorial Day weekend must plan ahead as peak travel hours occur Thursday from noon, Friday from 11 a.m. and Monday from noon. Road construction on I-41, highways 55, 22 and 21 creates detours in Outagamie and Winnebago — check routes before leaving. FOX 11
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Allegiant launched its nonstop service yesterday from Appleton International Airport to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, operating up to twice a week. The airline offers introductory one-way fares starting at $60 + they must be purchased by May 22 for travel by Aug. 15. FOX 11
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Appleton International Airport will receive $2 million for updates to its ticket counters and baggage systems while two other Wisconsin airports get federal funds for terminal improvements — efforts supported by the FAA under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to improve service and safety for travelers. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The 50th anniversary Bellin Run will feature past champions including Frank Shorter and Bill Rodgers plus current elite runners in a race set for 8 a.m. Saturday, June 13. Commemorative shirts and a five-decade soundtrack are planned to mark the event. FOX 11
