COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Appleton offers a free Discover Appleton Challenge scavenger hunt available until Oct. 31. Families, students and adults can use the GooseChase app (via smartphones or Chromebooks) to complete fun learning missions at parks, city departments and public art while earning points for prize drawings.  FOX 11
  • Neenah’s Dairy Queen will offer blue-dyed popcorn on Thursday, May 14 to support local police K9 units. The one-day event continues a long-standing local tradition and will donate all proceeds to the police departments.  WOSH-AM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Farmers in Northeast Wisconsin have ramped up planting after April’s historic flooding, & dry weather helped them get corn and beans in the ground. Daniel Diederich of Diederich Farms said challenges remain with moving cow manure for field work.  FOX 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Menasha Joint School District began its search for a new superintendent after Matt Zimmerman resigned last month—applicants have until Sunday, May 17 to apply through the Wisconsin Education Career Access Network.  WBAY
  • Building for Kids Children's Museum is adding 1,000 sqft to host Power Up, an exhibit where families can learn about energy and sustainability through an animated Appleton model and energy stations. A ribbon cutting is planned for May 29 + the exhibit will open to the public on May 30.  WBAY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Neenah Foundry paid a $200K fine for breaking environmental laws (May 12) after settling claims. The action shows a firm step toward enforcing local rules and protecting the environment.  WHBY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WIS 47/Richmond Street in Appleton will close starting May 19 through fall for reconstruction into a diverging diamond interchange as part of the I-41 expansion from four to six lanes, with northbound ramps closing in late June and southbound ramps in mid-July.  WTAQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Children’s Wisconsin expanded its neonatal intensive care unit at the Fox Valley Hospital in Neenah on May 12, adding a six-bed pod to care for up to 28 babies. The upgrades include more family space + remodeled pediatric rooms.  Post-Crescent
