- ➤ A speed limit sign inside the Outagamie County Solid Waste Facility has drawn attention for its unusual 17.3 mph reading (Jordan Hiller, Recycling Program Coordinator, said it reminds drivers to slow down) and online photos have circulated widely among local residents. WHBY
- ➤ Appleton community members gathered at Houdini Plaza on May 1 for an event organized by Indivisible Fox Valley to demand fair wages and safe work conditions. The rally honored local working-class heritage and connected participants with a nationwide call for change. WOSH-AM
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ An apartment fire late Thursday forced one family to leave a Grand Chute building at the 300 block of South Kools Street — no one was hurt as fire crews quickly controlled the blaze using water extinguishers. WBAY
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Kimberly’s Paperfest will add Blue Öyster Cult to the Saturday night lineup at Sunset Park, scheduled from July 16-19; the band will perform its hit songs at 9:30 p.m. as the festival also features free concerts, a hot air balloon glow, carnival rides, and fireworks. FOX 11
- ➤ The Boeing B-29 Superfortress (Doc) will return this summer at AirVenture with flight experiences at Appleton International Airport from July 20-23 and a display at Boeing Plaza from July 24-26. - ➤ FEMA will start a Joint Preliminary Damage Assessment Monday in parts of Northeast Wisconsin to check damage from historic flooding + tornadoes that hit mid-April. State officials and lawmakers hope the review will help secure the federal aid needed for community recovery. FOX 11
