CULTURE NEWS

  • The Boeing B-29 Superfortress Doc will return to Oshkosh at EAA AirVenture to mark America’s 250th, with ticketed flight experiences at Appleton International Airport from July 20-23 and a display on Boeing Plaza from July 24-26 (one of only two flying examples in existence).  WTAQ
  • After 10 months of closure, the Communication Arts Center and Fieldhouse on the former UW campus in Menasha reopened under a county partnership with Wisconsin Entertainment Group — the facility is scheduled to host a spring concert on May 8 and Attic Theatre performances in June.  Post-Crescent

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Wisconsin rose to $4.29 per gallon overnight + experts cite refinery maintenance and labor disputes as factors behind further expected hikes before the weekend.  WOSH-AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Appleton School Board approved a policy change to mark K-5 students absent if they arrive after 8:45 a.m. next school year. The update aligns attendance practices while existing rules for older students remain unchanged.  Post-Crescent
  • Menasha Superintendent Matt Zimmerman will resign on June 30 to take an administrative role with Appleton schools. He served Menasha for three years overseeing projects like the new Maplewood Middle School and plans for community education.  Post-Crescent

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Heavy spring floods pushed sturgeon away from their normal spawning routes in the Lake Winnebago system; DNR officials said by April 28 the fish returned to main river channels and will monitor their activity as water levels drop.  Post-Crescent

HEALTH NEWS

  • Jennifer Sanderfoot (Manager of Medicinal Specialties, Palliative Care at ThedaCare) explained on Off the Desk that National Healthcare Decisions Month in April encourages adults 18 and older to complete a POA-HC form so families can act swiftly if sudden health issues occur. She stressed that planning ahead helps ease tough decisions.  WOSH-AM
