ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ AAA data shows that gas prices in northeast Wisconsin jumped nearly 4% overnight, with prices in Appleton rising from $3.695 to $3.869 per gallon on April 24. The statewide average increased from $3.685 to $3.831 and marked a roughly 27% rise from last year. WOSH-AM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UW-Oshkosh formally inaugurated Manohar Singh as its 12th chancellor on Friday. Singh, a first-generation college graduate with extensive leadership in higher education, assumed the role on July 1 and aims to inspire future academic success. FOX 11
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The DNR reported roughly 40 sturgeon were seen yesterday near De Pere Dam and around Princeton, Shawano, and Peshtigo Dams along local rivers. Spawning is expected to begin over the upcoming weekend + flooding and low water clarity make some spots too unsafe to monitor. FOX 11
- ➤ Flood recovery efforts have started along the Wolf River as residents return home following evacuations. Damage assessments will be conducted door-to-door in Fremont, New London, and nearby areas—while Black Creek’s Red Cross shelter closed Friday once evacuees secured other accommodations. FOX 11
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Boaters in Winnebago County must follow a no wake order today as rising upland lakes prompt slow speeds near permanent structures; the order will be lifted when water levels recede. FOX 11
- ➤ Local leaders in Neenah and Menasha are taking action to prepare for rising flood levels from receding waters after floods in nearby areas, with sandbags being deployed and water pump teams on standby. Residents can call 211 — the hotline for flood reports. WOSH-AM
- ➤ We Energies is finishing the first phase of natural gas restoration in Fox Valley communities after flooding, having reconnected service for over 1,900 customers. Crews will rebuild damaged meters to restore service for 400 customers in (Fremont, New London, and Shiocton) as conditions allow. WBAY
