COMMUNITY NEWS

  • We Energies restored service for over 1,200 Fox Valley customers after last weeks flooding and expected to reconnect remaining homes by the end of Thursday. Crews used over 100 workers + inspected meters and rebuilt equipment damaged by flood water while warning residents about scammers posing as technicians.  WTAQ
  • We Energies has restored natural gas for over 1,200 flood-affected Fox Valley customers, with more than 100 crew members working to reconnect homes and complete safe service by the end of today.  WBAY
  • St. John’s United Church of Christ in Black Creek became the area’s last Red Cross shelter for flood victims on April 15 when record-breaking floodwaters forced evacuations. The church continues housing 12 residents while organizing donations at the fire station and will remain open until everyone has a home.  Post-Crescent
  • Sleep In Heavenly Peace delivered over 300 beds to children ages 3 to 17 in Waupaca County after recent floods — families in need can apply on the organization’s website for a delivery.  WBAY
  • Tom Zalaski and Stacy Engebretson hosted the annual WPS Volunteer Awards at De Pere’s Old Swan Club on Thursday morning, highlighting the efforts of local volunteers who work to keep our community strong.  WOSH-AM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Smash Mouth, the 90s pop band, will perform a free concert at Kimberly’s Paperfest on July 16 at Sunset Park. The festival runs until July 19 and features free live music and local attractions (including rides, food trucks, and fireworks).  WTAQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawrence University announced a new women's flag football program for the 2027-28 academic year & is beginning a national search for a head coach to lead recruitment. The new team will use existing facilities to broaden varsity sports offerings and support campus enrollment.  WTAQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Outagamie County opened its multi-agency resource center at Romy’s Nitingale in Black Creek to help residents impacted by floodwaters with disaster relief, public health support and insurance guidance — the center is open today from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  WTAQ
  • The Appleton Fire Department and eight other regional teams launched a food truck safety inspection program (free under state fire regulations) to streamline required checks. Inspections are set for April 28 in Fond du Lac, May 14 in Menasha, and May 19 in Green Bay.  WTAQ
  • Photos taken last week showed telecommunicators in action at the Outagamie County Public Safety Communications Center in Appleton on March 31 and at the Brown County dispatch center in Green Bay on April 2, as staff demonstrated call-taking and training exercises + daily operations.  Post-Crescent
