EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ High schools have announced prom dates—events are set for April 18 and 25 at venues such as Hilton Paper Valley Hotel and Fox Cities Stadium. Students will celebrate starting as early as 6:30 p.m. at various spots across the Fox Cities. Post-Crescent
- ➤ Marjorie Liu, author and comic book writer, will speak as the keynote at Lawrence University commencement on Sunday, June 14 at 10 a.m. on Main Hall Green + she is a Lawrence alum who credits campus courses for sparking her passion for writing. FOX 11
- ➤ Voters in Appleton and Menasha approved school referendums on April 7, with Appleton's $60 million measure receiving two-thirds support and Menasha's $36 million proposal passing narrowly. District leaders plan to hire more staff and work on a sustainable budget strategy (encouraging continued community input). Post-Crescent

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Evers signed a new law on April 9 allowing Native American students to wear traditional tribal regalia at graduations and school events; the law, championed by the Tribal Caucus and ACLU, clears up uncertainty that had led families to seek guidance. Post-Crescent
- ➤ Interstate 41 in Outagamie and Brown Counties is in the midst of a nine-year expansion (ongoing improvements include added lanes and updated interchanges) that will ease traffic and support regional growth. Appleton commuters may face brief delays during construction. Post-Crescent
- ➤ Gov. Tony Evers signed a law that lets residents place online sports bets anywhere if a betting app is administered by one of Wisconsin’s (11) tribes. The law takes effect immediately, but Appleton bettors will need to wait until tribal agreements are finalized. FOX 11
- ➤ Little Chute Fire Department broke ground on a new 18,000 sqft fire station at the 1100 block of Depot Street on April 9. The project, budgeted at $6.7 million with $2.2 million for overruns, will improve space and safety for its 52 firefighters and is expected to complete next spring. WTAQ
