  • Appleton police are asking residents to stop feeding wild turkeys in the Memorial Park neighborhood as the growing number of birds has caused safety issues such as interference with vehicles and cyclists — feeding wild animals violates city ordinance.  WHBY

CRIME NEWS

  • Appleton businessman Douglas Larson, age 72, was sentenced to two years in federal prison on April 4 for failing to pay over $1 million in employment taxes over nearly 14 years — he owned Mods International that built shipping container structures.  We Are Green Bay

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Josh Kaul held a roundtable at the Outagamie County Courthouse in Appleton on Wednesday to discuss a funding crisis for victim services caused by large federal cuts. He said the state should provide about $68 million over two years—an effort to prevent further cuts in staff, hours and programs.  Post-Crescent
  • Appleton's new transit center project is delayed because the USDOT is reviewing a $25 million grant from the RAISE program—this check may slow work while the city expects to keep its funding. Valley Transit general manager Ronald McDonald said private funds will support planned apartment buildings atop the center as upgrades are needed for the old facility.  We Are Green Bay

  • The USDA announced on Saturday that it is recalling more than 22,000 pounds of Johnsonville cheddar bratwurst after consumer complaints reported finding plastic in the meat. The 19 oz tray packages—sold in Wisconsin and several other states—have not caused any reported injuries.  WBAY
