COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance will host Northeast Wisconsin's largest volunteer trash pickup in De Pere—volunteers can sign up online for equipment—and will hold a mini-cleanup on April 22 plus a main event on May 3 at 9 a.m. The events aim to help keep local waterways safe and tie in with the NFL Draft as more visitors arrive in the area.  WTAQ

CRIME NEWS

  • On the sixth anniversary of his disappearance, Appleton police are seeking help finding Nicholas Hietpas who vanished on April 1st wearing a black sweatshirt with green lettering, blue jeans and brown work boots as his vehicle was later found near Highway 64 and Shadow Lake Road and investigators believe he may be with a white German shepherd named Samantha.  FOX 11
  • Zachary Burr (22) was convicted Tuesday for a drunk driving crash at Taylor and Depot streets in Kaukauna that killed motorcycle passenger Arianna Stevens, and his sentencing is set for June 16 where prosecutors will recommend 20 years in prison or a joint recommendation of 15 years with extended supervision.  WTAQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Appleton residents voted Tuesday in nonpartisan local and state elections — including races for a vacant Supreme Court seat, a DPI superintendent, and a voter ID referendum. Polls closed at 8 p.m. — and results were posted thereafter for local races.  Post-Crescent
  • Election officials released the 2025 spring election results Tuesday, April 1 — covering races in Appleton, Shawano, and nearby communities. The report provided final tallies for local races and detailed outcomes for upcoming terms.  FOX 11
  • Voters in Appleton turned out in high numbers for the spring election on Tuesday at St. Bernard’s Church, and city clerk Kami Lynch said the polls remained busy with nearly 8,300 absentee ballots issued—2,000 more than in the 2023 spring election.  WBAY
  • Multiple races and referendums are on the ballot for the 2025 Wisconsin Spring General Election. Polls opened at 7 a.m. today and will close at 8 p.m. while Local 5 tracks nearly 200 races as results come in.  WOSH-AM
