ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire damaged a detached service building at the Wichmann Funeral Home on the 600 block of N. Superior Street around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, causing an estimated $75,000 in damage while no one was hurt and investigators are looking into the cause.  WHBY

CRIME NEWS

  • A Silver Alert is in effect in Menasha for Susan Adams who was last seen when a cab dropped her off at the Oneida Casino in Green Bay at 8:00 Sunday night—she never returned home and Menasha Police ask anyone with information to contact them.  WHBY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jacob Martonito, a sixth-grader at Appleton Classical School, won first place on Saturday at the Badger State Spelling Bee at Mitby Theater in Madison and will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington — D.C. from May 27—29.  Post-Crescent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A feasibility study set the route for the new High Cliff Connection trail linking Menasha and the Fox Cities to High Cliff State Park—Trail Coordinator Lynda Fink said the trail will follow Old Highway Road with a slight shift north, State Highway 114 and Pigeon Road in Sherwood. The project will move forward when funding and logistics are secured after a two million dollar commitment from the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.  WHBY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wisconsin's only peer-run warmline for emotional distress, Uplift Wisconsin, will shut down on April 5 following federal cuts to COVID recovery funds—leaving many with fewer local mental health support options.  Post-Crescent
  • The Community Blood Center is urging residents to donate blood immediately as supplies are dangerously low for patients needing surgeries, cancer treatments, and emergency care. The center also offers rewards for donations—such as gift cards—to help motivate donors and restore the local blood supply.  WTAQ
