COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Neenah Middle School, the Rotary Club is providing healthy snacks like fresh fruit and Nature Valley bars to help students focus in class. The Feeding Minds and Bodies program, costing about $5,000 with support from a $3,000 grant and donations, may expand districtwide.  FOX 11
  • Valley Transit now offers free travel training sessions to help residents become comfortable with bus stops, routes & fare pricing. Travel Training Specialist Stephanie Gifford guides riders including students, families, older adults, and those with disabilities to gain independence on the road.  WOSH-AM

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Building for Kids Children's Museum opened its History of Helpers exhibit Thursday — showcasing interactive displays and historical photos and encouraging young visitors and families to learn about community generosity at its College Avenue location.  FOX 11
  • Yesterday, the History Museum at the Castle opened its new natural history exhibit featuring fossils and rocks from the former Weis Earth Science Museum now housed in the Leonard and Donna Weis Gallery downtown. The exhibit includes an updated geologic timeline and interactive displays on Wisconsin’s past.  Post-Crescent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lawrence University Community Council is reviewing documents to decide on official recognition of a Turning Point USA chapter on campus + a meeting next week will determine if the group can reserve campus spaces.  WTAQ
  • Six months into a one-year truancy citation trial, Appleton high schools show stronger attendance than pre-pandemic numbers. The Appleton Area School District has maintained support services before any $250 citation is given (one citation issued so far) and the trial will be reviewed by the Common Council in June.  FOX 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Because water levels are rising, the Outagamie County Sheriff's Office has issued a No Wake order on all waterways, effective immediately. Boats must travel slow-no-wake when within 500 feet of any building, structure, bridge, or pier (except for floating rafts).  WHBY
  • Today, long lines affect Appleton International and Austin Straubel as TSA staffing shortages (over 3,000 employees called in sick due to funding issues) impact local travelers. Officials are monitoring the situation as concerns grow over potential delays.  WBAY
