EDUCATION NEWS

  • The April 1 election for state superintendent will see incumbent Jill Underly and challenger Brittany Kinser face off as voters decide whether Underly’s record on public education and state testing standards or Kinser’s push for stricter DPI oversight and school choice should guide the department—early voting began on March 18. This election will determine who leads Wisconsin’s K-12 education efforts amid ongoing debates on funding and accountability.  Post-Crescent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials toured the new Appleton Public Library on Monday, where Secretary Kathy Blumenfeld inspected a $40 million project largely funded by community donations and a non-state grant—its grand opening drew more visitors in 10 days than any single month at its temporary locations—. The library upgrades, begun after operating in temporary sites since 2022, mark a significant investment in modern community resources.  WBAY
  • Yesterday's election kicked off six years of state Supreme Court races as voters decided if liberal Judge Susan Crawford or conservative Judge Brad Schimel should fill the seat left by Justice Ann Walsh Bradley. The outcome may lead to shifts in the court's makeup with future elections set to flip ideological control — a process that could change the balance multiple times.  Post-Crescent
  • Tesla filed a lawsuit in January in Outagamie County Circuit Court asking for an exemption from state law so it can sell vehicles directly in Madison, Milwaukee, Grand Chute and Glendale; the case was moved to Milwaukee County after Judge Mitchell Metropulos allowed the change. Elon Musk has spent over $18 million to back judicial candidate Brad Schimel—liberal candidate Susan Crawford says this support is an attempt to buy votes as the case may reach the high court.  Post-Crescent
