- ➤ UW-Oshkosh student Alexandria Blattner from Neenah died after striking a tree while skiing at Granite Peak on Feb. 5, officials confirmed, making it the resort's second fatal ski incident this season. WBAY

- ➤ Sturgeon spearing on the upriver lakes ended Monday when the harvest cap for adult females was reached, with 375 sturgeon taken over the weekend. The fishing season on the big lake runs through March 1. WHBY
- ➤ Today, after weeks of cold, a thaw has warmed Wisconsin to the 40s and 50s (with some areas nearing 60 degrees), prompting longer car-wash lines and more people taking walks.
