- ➤ Appleton East High School was locked down briefly on Friday after an incident near the school, and police quickly located a juvenile while confirming there was no threat to students. WBAY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wisconsin officials ordered Cave Enterprises to pay over $237,000 in back wages to teen workers at 105 Burger King locations after nearly 2,000 child labor violations were found over two years ending in January + the company may face an extra penalty of $828,000 if it does not settle. - ➤ New Wisconsin law lets seniors remove $24,000 of retirement income from state taxes if filing individually (or $48,000 for married couples) regardless of total income. The change is part of a $1.3 billion tax cut plan aimed at retaining retirees, with tax returns due on Wednesday, April 15. Post-Crescent
- ➤ The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced that the Frozen Road law is in effect statewide. Seasonal weight restrictions originally applied in Northeast Wisconsin last December now allow vehicles hauling salt, abrasives and forest products to carry more weight. WBAY
- ➤ A new autism-informed training program is now available for law enforcement in Northeast Wisconsin to help them interact safely with autistic individuals (designed by officers, first responders, and families). Local departments may soon add the program to improve community relations. WTAQ
