ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday at 8:00 p.m., a 23-year-old man fell into the Fox River near Ohio Street in Oshkosh when he broke through the ice but pulled himself out safely, and Winnebago County authorities reminded residents that no ice is completely safe near flowing water.  FOX 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Community Arts Center is set to stage Dream Role, a Broadway-style show that features musical hits, at Kaukauna High School in place of its usual musical. Dress rehearsals held on (Feb. 2) offered a sneak peek as the production will open to local audiences soon.  Post-Crescent
  • Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass in Neenah is undergoing a $785,000 renovation to upgrade all nine galleries with new LED lighting, display cases, and interactive displays. The museum remains open and offers donors medallions if they contribute $500 (or ornaments for $1,000) while work proceeds in phases.  Post-Crescent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School district officials met Wednesday at James Madison Middle School to discuss an April 7 referendum that would bring in $60 million, cover a $13 million deficit and prevent 130 to 150 job losses; if passed, taxes would rise by $15 per $100,000 home + $45 for an average property.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State lawmakers delayed a $1 million funding request for the Department of Public Instruction after concerns arose from a $368,885 workshop held at a water park resort. (The Joint Finance Committee tabled the vote on Feb. 3, warning the delay could lead to layoffs and disrupt teacher licensing.)  Post-Crescent
  • The DNR announced Wednesday that $499,000 in stewardship funding was approved for 32 improvement projects at state parks and DNR-managed lands, and Friends Groups + local volunteers will carry out upgrades such as trail remediation, visitor center improvements, and playground updates.  FOX 11

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Downtown Appleton will host its annual Death by Chocolate event on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., featuring 24 chocolate treats from local businesses on two routes. The family-friendly event offers exclusive samples (tickets are limited) so visitors should purchase soon.  WBAY
