COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Appleton Parks & Recreation and first responders teamed up this week for a toy ride-along event where 50 families dropped off toys so children could see police and fire trucks in action. Kids will get their toys and a certificate on Tuesday. WBAY
- ➤ Appleton is offering a free workshop series at the Public Library for residents to learn how to strengthen neighborhoods. Sessions include Organize Your Group for Effective Action on March 5 (6:30-8 p.m.) and other events planned through spring. WTAQ
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Sun Country Airlines launched a seasonal nonstop route from Appleton International Airport to Fort Myers on Thursday, Jan. 29. Flights depart twice weekly and will expand to four times a week starting in mid-March, continuing through April 13. WBAY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Appleton Area School District reported early gains in reducing chronic absenteeism as its first semester showed some of the lowest truancy rates in years. Superintendent Greg Hartjes said one truancy citation has been issued since the city reinstated its ordinance last year. WHBY
