COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Appleton Downtown, Inc. will host its annual Death by Chocolate walk on Feb. 7 in downtown Appleton. Guests paying $25 for tickets can choose between a west-end route with treats like chocolate tiramisu and beer or an east-end route offering chocolate cheesecake mousse and mint brownies.  Post-Crescent
  • Appleton Parks Department is hosting its fourth annual Mom Prom on Feb. 28 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Paper Valley Hotel to raise funds for local kids programs; women 21 and older will enjoy dancing, raffles, an after-party and a prom queen contest for a $40 ticket.  WBAY
  • The City of Appleton is offering a free workshop series at the Appleton Public Library to help residents strengthen neighborhoods, featuring sessions on organizing groups and building partnerships. The series continues through spring, with the Organize Your Group for Effective Action session on Thursday, March 5 (6:30 to 8:00 p.m.).  FOX 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hundreds will attend Bald Eagle Days in Kaukauna tomorrow at 7 a.m. to celebrate the national symbol and see eagle viewing sites along the Fox River and live presentations at the National Eagle Center (10 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m.).  FOX 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Appleton and Menasha school districts will hold community meetings in Feb. and Mar. ahead of their April 7 referendums to ask voters for extra funds amid budget deficits. Appleton sessions include Feb. 4 at Madison Middle School + Menasha meetings are scheduled for Feb. 12 at district sites.  Post-Crescent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers today proposed a bill that would let small out-of-state breweries serve beer at local festivals like Great Taste of the Midwest without a costly shipper's permit—aiming to boost participation after a 2023 law raised costs for craft brewers.  Post-Crescent
  • Volunteers conducted the ‘Point in Time’ count in northeast Wisconsin that found 53 people sleeping in vehicles or on benches in Brown County and 24 in the Fox Valley region; partners will follow up with unsurveyed individuals in July to gather more data (to guide the annual Homelessness Assessment Report).  WBAY

SPORTS NEWS

  • 12 year old Hallie Fisch (from Suamico) will compete in the national finals at Augusta National Golf Club in the girls ages 12 and 13 group after getting her ticket at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Sept. The finals will air on the Golf Channel on April 5.  WBAY
